Five things I’m grateful for:
- the view from Mum’s window. “I have a lovely outlook, don’t you think?”
- Mum’s relationship with her teenage grandson. “He’s a lovely boy. I won’t have a word said against him.”
- the carers at Mum’s rest home - the same ones that she’s known and loved for more than five years. “They’re very tactile dear. They give hugs when you need them.”
- Mum’s advocate Robyn, who visits her every Wednesday. “She’s a real friend - it’s not often, at my age, that you make a new friend.”
- Saturdays. “How lovely to see you! What day is it?”
